When I first heard of the
voice recognition software, Game Commander 2, I was a little
skeptical to say the least. But after only a few hours of
playing with it, it has increased all games
I play with a whole new light. It is a revolutionary new
product from Sontage Interactive. If you can get passed
feeling like a dork talking to your computer while your
significant other laughs at you or asks what did you just say.
If you can over come these obstacles then you should have no
other problems. This is one of the simplest easy to use
programs to set up and use that I have ever used. Not only
does it work as a game control it can also be used as a chat
tool in conjunction with your favorite online chat programs.
So you tell your team mates where the bomb to defuse is at
instead of trying to type it out quickly, for me I would not
even have it typed out before the bomb explodes.
Game Commander 2 is Sontage
Interactive’s second generation of award winning voice
control for games and simulations. Many of today’s games
have a lot of keyboard commands and they can be hard if not
impossible to remember all of them. Game Commander takes you
to the next level of gaming by enabling you to control any
Windows based game with verbal commands in tandem with the
keyboard, joystick, and mouse. For example, instead of
remembering that ALT+SHIFT+F8 is the command for lock
missiles, you can just say “lock missiles.”
Voice commands also increase
the realism and immersion of games and simulations by enabling
you to give verbal orders to computer-controlled characters
such as co-pilots, wingmen, and crew members. Verbal tasks
such as casting spells in adventure and role-playing games
gain a new dimension when you can utter them in your own
voice.
Game Commander 2 simply runs
in the background listening for voice commands. When it
recognizes a command, it sends the keystroke associated with
that command to the game. No special support is needed in the
game. As long as the game accepts keystrokes, Game Commander 2
can control it with voice commands. In fact, any
Windows application that accepts keystrokes can be controlled
by voice in this manner.
Game Commander 2 automatically
loads the commands for the game or application that you’re
using, and only those commands. There’s no need to remember
to load the correct command file. This auto load capability
means that you can work with many applications and the
appropriate voice commands will always be ready.
Game Commander 2 supports up
to 256 keystrokes per voice command so that it can carry out
almost anything from simple commands to complex tasks such as
executing a sequence of maneuvers, sending messages to other
players or accessing deeply nested menu items. The number of
commands per game is virtually unlimited. Command files for
complex flight and combat simulations can easily contain over
a hundred commands.
When you first start game
commander you will already have a list of popular games
already pre configured to run with this software. Also go to
the game commander website to download more commands that are
already configured to run under some of the newest games on
the market. If they don’t list your game on the site not all
is lost. In a matter of minutes you can have all the keys
setup and ready to rock under Game Commander
for any game that uses keystrokes. I would not recommend that
you use game commander for critical moves such as strafing and
jumping. It can come in real handy for finding the exact
weapon when you need it, instead of scrolling through all the
weapons that are available in most of the games today. You can
also use it to reload your weapon so that your fingers can
continue to run, jump, and strafe all at the same time. It
also can come in handy for activating items such as doors and
other things.
The fact that you can create
user profiles and save them is a very nice option. Because my
voice is quite different from my wives you can each have your
own profile. I can load my profile and it has all my saved
options and my voice is already recognized for all the
commands I have saved in my profile.
The biggest advantage to the
Game Commander software would have to be for the flight
simulator community. For all those hundreds of commands you
try to setup on the keyboard then try to remember what three
keys need to be pushed in the right order or simultaneously to
get your landing gear down. You can just set it up to
recognize when
you say “gear down” and that is just what will happen.
Game Commander 2 is a very
inexpensive and a very handy program to have for all serious
gamers. I feel that it is a cool addition to any game you play
and can make the possibilities for some games endless and it
might also give you an edge over the competition. Play On
